About Me
About Melanie
I've been growing chrysanthemums for around 5 years now, starting out with a dwarf grown chrysanthemum picked up at Bunnings. I nearly killed it (!!) in the first year but I still grow that cultivar from cuttings each year as a reminder of how far I've come. Before that I'd been long captivated by displays of chrysanthemums in Japan, in awe of the attention to detail and volume of delicate, perfectly placed petals.
I live in Daylesford, Victoria with my partner and chaos corgi, Merle. I grow many different type of flowers, but chrysanthemums for me are the main game!
I work in software and I am a woman of (too) many hobbies.
I'm a committee member and show manager for the Chrysanthemum Society of Victoria where I grow blooms for show each year. I don't claim to be an expert but I will share some knowledge here to help you get started. To really get stuck in growing large blooms, I strongly recommend you find your nearest chrysanthemum society/gardening group. They can help you understand your local growing conditions and how to get the most of your cuttings and understand timings for the best possible blooms.
I started the chrysanthemum project on Instagram as a way of documenting the cultivars I am growing each year and also to provide others with a reference in the process. It was always difficult to find photos of certain cultivars - especially grown as larger blooms.
Every cultivar I list on the site I have grown for at least one year and the photos are all my blooms that I have grown - so you can see the exact plants that the cuttings have come from.
Each year I have been asked by many followers whether I will be selling cuttings.
So now, after life got in the way more than once, I am finally able to offer cuttings!
I really appreciate you following along my journey and hope that you fall in love with these magnificent flowers too.
